As Americans, we need to take a look in the mirror and be honest about what we see.
Banning assault weapons will not solve America’s gun violence epidemic. It won’t even make a statistically significant dent in the problem. Less than 1/2 of 1% of gun deaths in America occur because of mass shootings. The majority of gun deaths in America are perpetrated by young black urban males and the majority of gun death victims in America are young black urban males. There are racial realities that we have to do deal with honestly.
Gun violence in America is the demonic offspring of two evils: (1) hundreds of years of social injustice perpetrated against black Americans and (2) crippling, addictive Democratic welfare policy. The latter traps poor blacks in a cycle of dependency and crime.
If we want to solve the gun violence epidemic in America, we need to about honest about the root causes. Solutions that don’t address them are bound to fail.
